Bamberg attractions and my hometown
My hometown Bamberg and attractions. Born in Bamberg and raised in the countryside, after a few years I moved back to Bamberg. Bamberg is a small town in the north of the state of Bavaria. With about 77,500 inhabitants Bamberg is located at the mouth between the river Regnitz and the Main. In my travel video you will get a brief insight into the sights of the city of Bamberg.
Have you been to my hometown or are you planning to travel here? Write it in the comments where you were and what you especially liked about my hometown. As a small help for your travel planning I summarized the most popular sights of Bamberg.
Events & festivities in my hometown
The Bamberg Wine Festival
On the 5th to the 10th of June 2019 the Bamberg Wine Festival took place on the Maxplatz. In the 11th to the 19th century, there was the historic viticulture in the mountain area of Gaustadt to Bug. Even today, you can see Michaelsberg a beautiful vineyard.
Various street artists such as magicians, acrobats, jugglers, fire dancers, comedians and music bands perform in Bamberg every year. The festival takes place annually over the weekend in July, as well as this year on 19 to 21 July 2019.
Canalissimo, cultural festival on the canal
The cultural festival on the canal, called Canalissimo, takes place every year in July. So it was this year on 25 to 28 July 2019. With the only difference, this year, 3 € required admission. In addition to Bamberger beer, there will be a festive atmosphere along the canal with music and food.
Blues and Jazz Festival
Also this year the blues and jazz festival takes place between the 2nd to the 11th of August in my hometown. 70 great bands perform live on the stages in Bamberg city center
Among the festivities is Bamberg’s largest folk festival, the Sandkirchweih. The Sandkirchweih usually takes place every year in August city. Also this year there will be a Sandkirchweih again between the 22nd to the 26th of August 2019. Enjoy the spectacular fireworks from the Markusbrücke or at the lower and upper bridge in the city.
The sights in Bamberg are popular destinations for Asian tourists, especially Chinese and Japanese. Often you can see tour guides with groups from all over the world walking through downtown Bamberg. Sometimes they are tourists from the USA and another time the tourists come from the United Kingdom.
Bamberg Dom, Cathedral
The cathedral in Bamberg is a popular tourist destination. The Bamberg Cathedral is a World Heritage Site and has many other attractions to offer in addition to a museum. From Bamberg city center it is only a short walk through the sand road to the cathedral mountain.
New residence and rose garden
Another beautiful sight is also on the Dom mountain. In the new residence is a beautifully landscaped rose garden, with stunning views over the city.
The Old Town Hall in Bamberg
In the old town hall of Bamberg is also a small museum that tells the story of Bamberg. The old town hall was built in the Regnitz. So it is located between the arms of the river Regnitz and can be reached via the Upper Bridge.
Monastery Michelsberg in Bamberg
Not far from the Bamberger Dom, you come to Michelsberg. You should visit the monastery located on the Michelsberg during a holiday in Germany as well. From the garden of the monastery you also have a very nice view over the Franconian town.
For me, the Altenburg is one of the places most visited by me. The ascent to Altenburg is possible via a beautiful staircase in the forest. But you can also go up by bus or by car. The view from the Altenburg or from the tower is worthwhile anyway.
On the banks of the Regnitz are still very old houses, this former fishing village is now called Little Venice. From the St. Mark's bridge in the direction of the lower bridge, you will see Klein Venedig at its best from the "Am Leinritt" street.
The old town of Bamberg
In the old town of Bamberg are the old town hall, the sand road in the Bamberg largest fair, the Sandkirchweih takes place and the Bamberg cathedral mountain. In addition to the attractions you will find great souvenir shops in the old town. There you can take many beautiful things from my hometown in your country as a souvenir
ERBA Island and Hain Park
For a few relaxing hours in the city, the ERBA island and the Hain area serve. From the top of the ERBA island you can take a look at the Bamberg harbor. At the top of the Luisen Hain is a boat rental. There you can take the pedalo over the Regnitz. On hot days you can cool down in the grove and eat in the boathouse.
